Pet Society is closing :0(

EA is shutting down Pet Society. I'm sure it's still making money, just not enough for these cut throat mega corporations who don't care about customer loyalty. 2013 has been kind of a rough year for me so far, I really didn't want to hear this today.

So I've been through a few pet game closings now, not just GoPets, and with Pet Society the community is bickering and all the usual stuff when people are hurt and they don't know what to do. I've signed the petitions and such, but I don't expect that to do any good. EA is closing the whole Playfish division, I've heard employees have already been let go. It's like all big corporations, absorbing smaller companies not so much to have their product as to eliminate them as competition.

So I was trying to think of something positive to do for the Pet Society community. I thought some people might like to write stories about why our pets need to leave town, and what they will do in the future. I think it would be good particularly for the people who play with their small kids, my friend is going to ask her boy to write a story. I made a tumblr account to put these stories in one place. Anyone can sign up for free and post a story, include a picture if you like. It's also a way we can show how much we love the game--but I'm not making it as a protest site, it's a place to post child safe stories we can all share. I read about this. It's sad. I know I'm awful late in posting here about it. I kinda stopped playing Facebook games awhile back, but I got a tablet and got into a few of them again. It's pretty sad. I was looking at my PS pictures just now and they were kinda cute. It's terrible for pet owners to have to go through this again and again.

Thanks! My husband and I have been playing Party Town. Our pets got married in the game and are growing the love tree, it's fun. I like the graphics. But it doesn't have nearly as many activities as Pet Society did, unfortunately.

Party Town. I will like to check that out. I used to love um....Animal Rescue! I LOVED THAT game. It was great :(WAS is the key word there. Another pet game gone under. EDIT: Party Town looks like Pet Society pets?! I will add you once I figure out whatever I'm doing.

Wouldn't it be great if some of us could create and maintain a pet game that wouldn't die/have financial/political problems...it'd stick around forever and we'd have inventories full of pet items and lots of cute pets to care for...always.

The post won't show up immediately, I have to log in and approve it. Some people have had trouble adding a picture to their story, I can add your picture if that's a problem. I loved your article. I have to agree with Katie who posted in your comments that its because of the greed of the companies (who just want money) that these games (and our beloved pets!) die whenever they say they're gonna die.

I suggest that the pet company that will live long will be the one run by people like us who do it for a hobby for ourselves and the community. This is how some websites stay alive for many years with no/little profit. It's a labor of love for our pets and each other, not a search for money. The community of virtual pet lovers is where we need to look to, to bring such a thing to life and keep it alive.
