Didn't read or listen to the news myself today so have nothing to add.

Re: Daily News
How is the snowstorm going?
Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize.
err, haven't been following the news lately. Why was he offered it in the first place?

Re: Daily News
That's what a lot of people couldn't figure out, and why it was controversial. The nobel prize committee actually seems pretty happy that everyone is talking about it, they said they don't make their choices trying to avoid controversy. They usually don't talk about their decisions, but due to the situation they felt the need to defend their choice. Here is a video to an interview with someone on the committee -
http://nobelprize.org/mediaplayer/index.php?id=1174
"Following the announcement, Geir Lundestad, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told senior editor Simon Frantz why President Barack Obama's creation of a new climate in international politics closely fulfils the statues of Alfred Nobel's will."
I think he makes some good points. Obama has changed the international climate to one of more cooperation. Of course the whole controversy over the prize has made things more difficult for Obama, who was already under very high expectations and a lot of scrutiny. But I can't believe people are suggesting he shouldn't accept it. You can't turn down a Nobel Peace prize. It would be an insult to the prize committee.

Re: Daily News
The snowstorm was terrible...it wasn't cold enough for the snow to pack and freeze but it wasn't warm enough for it to melt, so everywhere was covered with half a foot of slush. D:

Re: Daily News
We were hit hard by the snow - school was closed for 3 days. It's been so cold ever since that none of the snow is melting. Love the look of it, but don't like walking around in it.

Thieves stole Auschwitz's 'Arbeit macht frei' entrance sign.
And, it will snow tomorrow and the day after. I'm kind of excited.

Wow, we had 3 feet of snow! Aack, I was tired of clearing the driveway! Traffic was horrible too, but being able to just relax inside was wonderful! Also, no school for the whole week. Kids cheer! yayz!

Brittany Murphy, actress, died of a heart attack. She played that friend in Clueless! Apparently in 8 Mile and other movies but I didn't see those.

Re: Daily News
I just read about a part-plant, part-animal. I find it quite fascinating that this little sea slug is able to appropriate chloroplasts and produce chlorophyll and go through photosynthesis. It made me think about how convenient it would be for us if we could do the same - but then it wouldn't be as much fun not being able to taste and eat delicious food so I guess I'm content with not being part-plant myself.

Despite what the news was saying about a huge snowstorm, we did NOT get any snow.
The town even salted our streets. There goes however many pounds of salt to waste...
